Cesar Soto was seriously injured in the hit-and-run incident on Great Road, in the Harris Street area, on November 2, 2022 around 6:00 p.m., as reported by Daily Voice. The driver responsible for the act, 85-year-old Joan Hurley, was faced with charges relating to the incident on Wednesday, Jan. 18, according to the Acton Police Department.
Police identified Hurley following an intensive investigation that including poring through local businesses' security cameras and seizing the vehicle seen on the footage.
Hurley, of Maynard, was charged with:
- Leaving the scene of personal injury
- Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
- Crosswalk violation
Soto was treated by first responders at the scene and then flown to a Boston trauma center. The incident left Soto in critical condition.
A GoFundMe was created to provide financial relief for Soto's family while the boy was in a coma.
"This horrible accident ... left this amazing, kind, sweet, caring child, fighting for his life," the GoFundMe site read.
Soto was discharged from the hospital in December, according to NBC10 Boston.
Hurley will be arraigned in Concord District Court on March 9, 2023.
